Group Visit: Field Museum’s Beyond Bollywood Exhibit
September 5 @ 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm
Join your fellow SABA Chicago members at the Field Museum’s Late Night event on September 5, 2017. This is a great opportunity to see the Beyond Bollywood exhibit.
The Field Museum’s Summer Late Night is from 5pm-9pm (last admission at 8pm). We will meet at the Beyond Bollywood exhibit at 6:30 pm.
This exhibition explores the heritage, daily experience, and numerous contributions of Indian immigrants and Indian Americans. From 19th-century railway workers to today’s doctors, cab drivers, yoga masters, and technology CEOs, the lives and stories of Indian Americans are woven into the larger story of the US—and have shaped it to be what it is today. Visitors will also explore stories from the local Indian American community, hearing their oral histories and viewing artifacts interpreted by Chicago’s Indo American-Heritage Museum.
About Field Museum Late Nights:
Never have the chance to visit The Field Museum during the day? This summer, explore new exhibitions and events during evening hours on select dates. Come by to discover The Field’s vast collection in Specimens: Unlocking the Secrets of Life, or get closer to dinosaurs than ever before in Jurassic World: The Exhibition.
Plus, The Field Bistro will be transformed into Base Camp. On September 5th, go spelunking with The Field! We're turning out the lights and bringing our scientists out to chat about early human life in caves with Anthropologist Bill Parkinson, how stalactites and stalagmites are formed with Geologist Jim Holstein, digging for mastodons with Paleontologist Bill Simpson, and cave bats with Mammalogist Tyrone Lavery! Post up against a rock in the Base Camp Cave, grab a drink, and learn what it’s like underground. Ben Babbitt, the composer behind the cave-themed video game Kentucky Route Zero, will provide a live soundtrack of the night. Plus, The Field Museum is teaming up with Billy Helmkamp and Julieta Campos, Co-Owner and Beverage Director of Chicago cocktail haven The Whistler to create cocktails that pair with the subterranean experience. Guests to Base Camp must be 21 or older.
